A Time to Embrace, A Time to Laugh, A Time to Let Go

When I am made Small

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” ~ Psalm 19:1

2013-08-04 10.47.27Sometimes we all need a reminder of how finite we are.  A recent trip to the Grand Canyon provided just the reminder I needed. Getting caught up in the daily routines of life, it’s easy to deceive myself into thinking that I have everything under control. Looking out over the Canyon, I was completely awestruck and filled with a sense of unimaginable wonder in the face of God’s glory.  In moments like these, I remember that I don’t have to carry my burdens alone.  In fact, I don’t have to carry my burdens at all.  “Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.” ~Psalm 55:22

When I am made small, God is made big.  Recognizing how small and limited I am in light of God’s infinite greatness fills me with joy…joy that strengthens and sustains me through trials, enables me to forgive when others disappoint or fail me, and satisfies my soul’s deepest longings in a way that the temporary satisfactions of this world never can and never will.  True joy leaves no room for pride.

“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.”~Isaiah 40:28

  1. Wow! God is good! This is exactly what God was telling me today, as I was driving down the road and singing…”Everlasting God” by Chris Tomlin. Thank you
